I was working on some upcoming posts when I realized June is all but over. It’s hard to believe, I mean what’s next, July?!?

The end of the month brings with the end of the latest reader poll, so it’s time to look at the final results. Sponsored by the Rahway Special Improvement District (SID), the monthly reader poll for June asked:

What’s your favorite restaurant in Rahway?

  1. Il Forno a Legna — 43% (30/71 votes)
  2. The Irving Social — 10% (7/71)
  3. [TIE] The Waiting Room — 6% (4/71)
  4. Luciano’s — 6% (4/71)
  5.  [TIE] Rahway Sushi — 4% (3/71)
  6. Portuguese Cuisine & Wine Bar — 4% (3/71)
  7. La Malinche — 4% (3/71)
  8. Nancy’s Towne House — 4% (3/71)
  9.  [TIE] CubaNu — 3% (2/71)
  10. Flynn’s Pub House — 3% (2/71)
  11. Sabor Peruano — 3% (2/71)
  12.  Monchy’s — 3% (2/71)
  13. [TIE] Other — 1% (1/71)
  14. Cooks Kitchn — 1% (1/71)
  15. Gigi’s Latin Bistro — 1% (1/71)
  16. The Coffee Box — 1% (1/71)
  17. Olivia’s — 1% (1/71)

Il Forno a Legna is always neck and neck with Nancy’s in the Favorite Pizza poll and this time came out on top at 43% – leading the pack but missing a majority vote by just a few ballots. If it were an election, we’d head to a runoff but it’s still a pretty healthy lead.

The 71 votes cast is a pretty solid number; not the triple digits that previous Favorite Coffee polls have garnered but a sizable amount compared to other polls. And there’s a bit of overlap in this poll since most of the eateries usually are also options in other polls.

There are some strange inconsistencies but of course this is no scientific poll. For instance, despite topping the Favorite Latin Restaurant poll in May, Hugo’s didn’t nab a single vote in Favorite Restaurant. Sabor Peruano, which finished a close second to Hugo’s last month, tied for 9th in this poll at 3%.

What’s cool is just about all of the restaurants that received support in this poll was walkable within downtown. Main Street alone has about half of them and East Cherry Street is home to several more. There are even more options beyond downtown, of course. As always, I’d be curious what the Other vote was cast for if you care to share in the comments.

Be on the look out for a new poll coming next week.
