Poll results: Your favorite pizza in Rahway

Quite a rivalry is brewing in the downtown Rahway pizza scene.

The Favorite Pizza poll kicked off the first in what will be a monthly series of polls, sponsored sponsored by the Rahway Arts and Business Partnership (RABP). The poll opened Feb. 1 and closed last night. Be on the lookout for a new poll to be posted during the first week of each month.

Nancy’s has been a mainstay, nearly synonymous with downtown Rahway and now has some friendly competition directly across the corner with Il Forno A Legna.

While Il Forno A Legna was the defending winner from the last poll in 2019, Nancy’s Towne House has been the only winner to repeat in the poll — and has never finished worse than 2nd. The 114 total votes were a bit less than the 145 votes in the last poll, back in 2019.

The two separated themselves from the pack when the poll opened, splitting most of the 30 ballots cast in the first day. The two continued along that way and topped the rest of the field by a comfortable margin, with Nancy’s edging out Il Forno by 8 votes (about 7%).

What’s your favorite pizza in Rahway?

  1. Nancy’s Towne House — 34% (39/115)
  2. Il Forno a Legna — 28% (32/115 votes)
  3. [TIE] Plum Tomato — 13% (15/115)
  4. Tony’s Pizza Cafe — 13% (15/115)
  5. Nunzio’s II — 7% (8/115)
  6. Michelino’s Pizza — 3% (3/115)
  7. Brooklyn Pizza — 1% (1/115)
  8. Other — 2% (2/115)
  9. VK Chicken and Pizza — 0% (0/115)
  10. Subworks — 0% (0/115)

I’m curious who garnered the “Other” votes so feel free to share in the comments. It could very well have been a mistake on my part. Since the poll posted, I realized a couple of places I forgot to include (my apologies). Piñatas Grill on Whittier Street (the former Ted’s Pizzeria) not only has Mexican food but also pizza specials and the menu at Chicken Delight on St. Georges Avenue also includes pizza.

Plum Tomato on St. Georges Avenue and Tony’s Pizza Cafe on Broadway tied for 3rd place with 13% (15 votes), about half the votes of Il Forno but almost twice as many as 5th-place finisher Nunzio’s II, on West Grand Avenue, which finished with 7% (8 votes).

There are an estimated 2,000 pizzerias in the Garden State, according to New Jersey Monthly, which happened to come out with “Your Guide to the Best Pizza in New Jersey” in its March issue. And despite that, they missed a few gems here in Rahway.
