Last year, it was a bit of a runaway in the final results after two joints jumped ahead early in the voting. Irving Street neighbors Melao Cafe & Creamery and The Coffee Box at the corner of East Cherry Street grabbed most of the early votes leading the pack before Melao took the 2021 coffee crown. It was a similar path in 2022.

Melao Cafe & Creamery and The Coffee Box jumped out to a healthy lead early over the rest of the pack and never looked back. The two kept piling on the votes while the other options picked up a few here and there. A few weeks into the voting, The Coffee Box overtook Melao for the No. 1 spot but only briefly.

This month’s poll received an incredible 343 votes — probably an all-time record. Another record may be the total votes received by the No. 1 choice, Melao Cafe & Creamery. Half of the original 16 options in the poll did not receive a vote. There were two votes for Other — anyone care to share their choices? I’ll be sure to include them the next time around.

Don’t forget to check out some of this year’s new entrants to the poll, Copacabana Coffee & Bagels which recently opened in the former D’Oh space on East Milton Avenue.

And stay tuned for the April reader poll to be posted over the next few days. Of course, if you have any suggestions for future polls, you know where to find me.
