It’s a little late this year but here’s a look at the top 10 most widely read posts during 2022.

This year, I did not include any poll results within the top 10. If I had, there would have been about five of the 12 polls that would have been among the top 10 posts. A couple of posts were published in 2021 but remained popular enough to break into the top 10.

10. New zoning map to be adopted, Jan. 31, 2022

.City Council approved a new zoning map, incorporating redevelopment plans that have been created over the last few years, including the Arts District Redevelopment Plan and the West Grand Avenue Overlay. Changes include recommendations from the 2019 master plan re-examination report, such as the re-zoning of the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) site at East Hazelwood Avenue, Woodbridge Road and Randolph Avenue.

9. Council awards $220K contract to arts center, May 9, 2022

.City Council awarded a $220,000 contract to the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) for technical and programming assistance associated with the mayor’s summer concert series.

8. RSI Bank acquired by Columbia Bank. Dec. 8, 2021

After 170 years operating in Rahway, RSI Bank, announced it would be acquired by Columbia Bank. The deal was consummated in 2022 but announced in late 2021.

7. Residents raise concerns about speeding. Aug. 23, 2022

Residents concerned about speeding came out to plead with City Council for traffic-calming measures in the neighborhood around East Hazelwood Avenue and Stockton Street.

6. Liens against properties for cleanup costs, March 21, 2022

Fourteen properties were hit with liens for cleanup costs totaling some $7,500 associated with code enforcement violations, including at least five properties that have been cited previously.

5. Rahway unofficial election results, 2022, Nov. 8, 2022

Despite a mayoral race that was unopposed and an incomplete slate of challengers, the biennial municipal elections still garnered some attention.

4. Downtown strategic plan: RSI Bank property, May 25, 2022

This post was part of a series of posts that delved deeper into the downtown strategic plan, specifically recommendations related to the downtown RSI Bank property,  one of 14 “opportunities sites” identified in the plan.

3. Council supports two marijuana facilities, Dec. 20, 2021

Another post from late 2021 that bled into 2022, this one was about a resolution passed by the governing body supporting two cannabis facilities for cultivation and/or manufacturing, specifically on St. Georges Avenue and East Inman Avenue.

2. Senior housing planned for Esterbrook site, April 13, 2022

Moving forward on a process that began by studying five Esterbrook Avenue properties for redevelopment, City Council designated a redeveloper of five Esterbrook Avenue properties for a concept that proposes a 60-unit senior housing facility.

1. City to allow retail cannabis operations, Oct. 14, 2022

A year after approving legislation that would allow all but retail cannabis facilities in the city, the governing body introduced measures to allow retail cannabis operations and to establish licensing and regulations for cannabis businesses.
