Redevelopment updates

The Gramercy on East Cherry Street is expected to be the next downtown development completed, with construction moving along on the adjacent Main & Monroe project and Reva Rahway farther south on Main Street. In all, the three projects total almost 500 rental units.

Engineer Jacqueline Dirmann of Maser Consulting delivered her monthly status report to the Redevelopment Agency during its Sept. 5 meeting:

Water main installation, storm sewer, curbing and sidewalk work will continue this month on The Gramercy on East Cherry Street. The 42-unit, five-story development by R2-N2 Urban Renewal Properties, a partnership between Warwick-based DMR Construction and Mountainside-based Netta Architects, now is expected to be completed by early fall.

The $13.5-million project will include 23 one-bedroom rental apartments and 19 two-bedroom units, along with 23 ground-floor parking spaces and another 34 spaces in the nearby Lewis Street parking deck will be dedicated to the building. About 1,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space will be along East Cherry Street but it’s unclear whether there still are plans for a coffee shop, which was mentioned during the initial approval of the project in late 2015.

Main & Monroe

Dornoch II, otherwise known as Main & Monroe, is under construction, with footings and foundation on the southern building. “Internal demolition” is continuing on the structure on Block 318/Lot 10, prior to building demolition, according to Dirmann. The five-story, two-building development will include 208 rental apartment units in total — 116 units in the south building and 92 units in the north building.

Reva Rahway

RevaRahway.July2018Footing and foundation work is ongoing at Reva Rahway, a 219-unit, five-story development at the former Center Circle site at 1255 Main St.

Site work on the front of the building consisting of curbing and storm sewer construction, is expected to begin this month.

The Brownstones

Brownstones.July2018Foundation and building construction is ongoing, including earthwork removal, at The Brownstones at the former Wheatena property at the corner of West Grand and Elizabeth avenues. The first phase of the project began earlier this year.

The 487-unit complex will include four five-story buildings in all, each with about 120 units, and is expected to be built by Linden-based Capodagli Property Company in four phases over the course of five years.
