There’s lots to choose from in this month’s category, with more than 20 options that are scattered throughout Rahway. My personal favorite part of hair salons, besides getting my hair cut, might be the nearly unlimited potential for puns and other play on words.

In case you missed it, City Council last year eliminated restrictions downtown on personal service uses, like hair or nail salons and spas. The move was among the recommendations in the downtown strategic plan.

This poll is different from the November reader poll, which asked “What’s your favorite barber shop in Rahway?” You need only look at the movies Barbershop (how is this movie 20 years old?!?) and Beauty Shop to see the difference. OK, so maybe you have to look a little closer but for this month, the poll is strictly hair salons.

You might remember one of the choices in this month’s poll, Moda 300 Salon on St. Georges Avenue, as one of the participants in the super-charged holiday window decorating contest. That December poll garnered an astonishing 3,291 votes, with Moda 330 collecting almost 300 votes to finish in third  place, behind Gelber Associates and Grand Delicias, and just ahead of Millie and Joy.

As usual, the poll will be open for several weeks, with final and completely unscientific results to be posted by the end of the month (and don’t forget, this month is a little shorter than the others!). A reminder: Votes are limited to one per IP address.
