The results of the monthly reader poll for September, sponsored by RahwayIsHappening.com, were — very close:

  1. {TIE} The Waiting Room — 29% (16/55 votes)
  2. Butch Kowal’s — 29% (16/55)
  3. Wet Ticket Brewing — 11% (6/55)
  4. Flynn’s Pub House — 9% (5/55)
  5. {TIE} The Irving Inn Social — 5% (3/55)
  6. Rocky’s Bar & Grill — 5% (3/55)
  7. {TIE} CubaNu — 4% (2/55)
  8. Luciano’s — 4% (2/55)
  9. {TIE} Nancy’s Towne House — 2% (1/55)
  10. The Lounge at Watt Hotel — 2% (1/55)

A tie?!?! Butch Kowal’s, thanks to a late push with 13 of its 16 votes coming yesterday, surged toward the top of the poll results, matching The Waiting Room, so a pair of Rahway institutions finish at the top.

The favorite bar poll is a usually a fan favorite. The last time there was a Favorite Bar poll in 2015 , there were three times as many votes cast, almost reaching 200 votes! In that poll, The Waiting Room won the title, ahead of Kowal’s, and the Firehouse Eatery & Pub and The Rail House (now The Irving Inn Social) which tied for third.

The beauty of Rahway, IMHO, is the mix of old school and new school. There’s the classics like Butch Kowal’s and Rocky’s (and The Waiting Room is certainly old school for Rahway). And then you also have the newer places, like The Irving Inn Social, an impressive mix of craft beers + bourbons, a hotel bar like The Lounge at Watt Hotel and even a brewery —Wet Ticket Brewing has a bar but technically has a different liquor license (but don’t get me started on New Jersey’s antiquated liquor license laws).

Surprisingly, there were no votes for “Other” this time around – usually there are a few in my polls. Stay on the lookout for the October monthly reader poll, coming out in the next week or so (open to suggestions, so feel free to hit me up on social media or via email).
