Legislation introduced by City Council last month would tweak regulations overseeing cannabis licenses, specifically making retail cannabis operations a conditional use – which requires Planning Board approval – within the zones where it’s allowed.
Existing zoning downtown is primarily governed by the Central Business District (CBD) Redevelopment Plan, first created in the late 1990s and amended numerous times since. The plan also includes 6 sub-districts.
City Council is expected to approve a new zoning map at its next meeting, the first revision of the zoning map in more than a decade.
