Two ad hoc committees of the Special Improvement District (SID) will meet this month.

City Council in July established two five-member ad hoc committees: the Arts & Culture Committee, comprised of individuals focused on the arts, and the Business Committee, made up of local merchants. Those are in addition to the five-member SID Advisory Board.
Elton Armady, economic development coordinator for the Special Improvemnet District (SID), briefed council members during the Oct. 12 SID meeting, held via Zoom.
Members of the SID’s ad hoc Business Committee are:
- Jeff Spelman, owner of The Coffee Box on East Cherry Street and Irving Street
- Michelle McTamney, financial advisor at Edward Jones on Irving Street
- Dawn White, general manager of Liberty Harley-Davidson on West Milton Avenue
- Pablo Varona, owner of Cubanu at Main and Lewis streets
- Laura Lopez of Millie and Joy Boutique on Franklin Street
Members of the SID’s ad hoc Arts & Culture Committee are:
- Armani Saahd-Tann, owner of Rahway Dance Theatre on Irving Street
- Nick Rosal, owner of Atelier Rosal on East Cherry Street
- Joann Gemenden, a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment
- Craig Sumberg, executive director of the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC)
- Pedro DaPaz, a local artist
The first meeting of the ad hoc committees is scheduled for Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.
Since the committees are ad hoc, formed for a limited period of time to address a specific need, appointments did not require council approval via resolution. Members of the mayor’s advisory committee were designated by Mayor Raymond Giacobbe while the ad hoc committee members were designated by City Council President Danni Newbury, according to Lauren Ferrigno, the city’s public relations coordinator.
The first meeting of the SID Advisory Board is scheduled for Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.
