Reader poll results: Favorite soup in Rahway

With all that’s going on in the world the last week, here’s some lighter fare to take a break from what’s happening in Europe: It’s the result of the February reader poll.

Sponsored by the Rahway Special Improvement District (SID), the monthly reader poll for February asked:

What’s your favorite soup in Rahway?
  1. [TIE] The Waiting Room – 15% (3/20 votes)
  2. The Coffee Box – 15% (3/20 votes)
  3. [TIE] Hugo’s – 10% (2/20 votes)
  4. Il Forno a Legna – 10% (2/20 votes)
  5. Souped! – 10% (2/20 votes)
  6. Olivia’s Catering and Dining – 10% (2/20 votes)
  7. [TIE] Flynn’s Pub House – 5% (1/20 votes)
  8. Caído del Cielo – 5% (1/20 votes)
  9. Madina Halal Platter – 5% (1/20 votes)
  10. The Irving Inn Social – 5% (1/20 votes)
  11. The Rahway Grill – 5% (1/20 votes)
  12. Wheelie Good Pierogi – 5% (1/20 votes)

The February reader poll, the Favorite Soup poll comes on the heels of the Rahway Special Improvement District’s annual Soup Stroll. The January event featured a sample of soup at 20 participating local restaurants.

While there were still plenty of participants, with plenty of options for readers to choose from, this year’s results are bit of a jumble.

East Cherry Street neighbors The Waiting Room and The Coffee Box, which offered different soups each week of the stroll, tied for the top honors with 3 of the 20 votes each (15%). Four others were right on their tail with 2 votes each (10%): Hugo’s, Il Forno a Legna, Souped!, and Olivia’s Catering and Dining.

Congratulations to all the restaurants that participated in this year’s Soup Stroll, offering a free, 4-ounce sample of their featured soup to strollers. Also, congratulations to the four winners of a drawing for $25 gift certificates to local restaurants: Nicole Paserchia, Jen Adona, Ruchie Patel, and Kacey Perinelli.

With just 20 votes, this month’s poll was a little on the light side as far as turnout. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, I’m open to suggestions on future polls. There will be some of the usual ones later this year, including the ever-popular favorite pizza poll, along with some new ones. I’m always open to feedback.

Thanks to all who voted  and be on the lookout of the March reader poll soon!
