Poll results: What’s your favorite outdoor summer event?

August is always a slow, lazy (in a good way) time of year, to relax and catch up.

At least, that’s my theory on why voter turn out in the lasted monthly reader poll may have been, a little weak, shall we say.

The results of the August reader poll, sponsored by the Rahway Arts and Business Partnership:

What’s your favorite outdoor summer event?

  1. Mayor’s Summer Concert Series — 55% (6/11 votes)
  2. Culture Crawl Music Series in the Paseo — 18% (2/11)
  3. [TIE] Drive-in movies — 9% (1/11)
  4. Rahway River Fest — 9% (1/11)
  5. Other — 9% (1/11)

The poll launched early this month and wrapped up last night and it was the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series in a complete runaway. At least, as much of a runaway that be had when only about a dozen votes are cast . This year’s programming for the weekly summer concerts, held every Thursday in August outside the Union County Performing Arts Center, included ’90s sensations En Vogue and Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath as part of the POP2000 Tour.

There were other options that didn’t garner a vote, including Cultural Crawl Music Series in the Arts Park, Pop up Bohemian Festival, Culture Crawl Pop Up Dance Deep House House Dance Parties at Train Station Plaza, and Cherry Street Soiree En Blanc, which took place on Sunday under the pavilion on East Cherry Street.

Maybe I can attribute the piddling vote total to people taking a breather during August and spending time enjoy these various events. As usual, I’m curious what the Other vote was for events. Maybe I should have included the weekly Farmer’s Market at Train Station Plaza?

Be on the lookout for the next monthly reader poll for September, out early next month. I’ve got some ideas but, as always, I’m open to suggestions.
