The new measures come a month after another change approved at the Aug. 8 meeting (O-30-22) that prohibited parking altogether on a stretch of the west side of Elizabeth Avenue from Jackson Avenue. At its Sept. 12 meeting, City Council held public hearings on three ordinances that were adopted.
One ordinance (O-35-22) institutes parking by permit only in designated areas:
  • Irving Street from the apex of West Grand Avenue 297 feet south, and from the apex of West Grand Avenue running 208 feet north;
  • The west side of Elizabeth Avenue from the corner of West Scott Avenue, south 590  feet;
  • The east side of Elizabeth Avenue from the corner of West Scott Avenue, north 186 feet; and,
  • The west side of Elizabeth Avenue from the corner of West Lincoln Avenue south 750 feet.
The ordinances will add parking directly opposite of the Brownstones toward West Scott Avenue and over a certain length to accommodate individual homes and some businesses, City Administrator Jacqueline Foushee said in a telephone interview this week, adding that other parking changes addressed street sweeping.
Another ordinance (O-36-22) prohibits parking at all times on the west side of Main Street from the apex of East Milton Avenue 732 feet south to the apex of East Emerson Avenue. One ordinance (O-34-22) prohibits parking during certain hours on both sides of Irving Street from West Grand Avenue to Central Avenue.
