City Council approves annual appointments

City Council approved some 50 appointments to a dozen boards and commissions during its annual reorganization meeting on Monday night.

The governing board adopted  resolution (AR-4-23) confirming appointments and reappointments to assorted city boards and commissions, including the Zoning and Planning Boards.

Planning Board

Al Shipley of Elm Avenue was reappointed and Ruta Padulo of New Church Street and Michael Pakay of West Emerson Avenue were appointed as Class IV members through 2026.

Class IV members serve four-year terms and must be residents and hold no other municipal office, except they can be a member of the Zoning Board and the Board of Education.

Kyle Gustofson was appointed as a Class II member (a city official) through 2023.

William Cladek of Esterbrook Avenue and Christopher Brown were reappointed as alternates through 2024.

Redevelopment Agency

Armando Sanchez of Jefferson Avenue was reappointed through 2027. He has served as chairman of the seven-member board.

Zoning Board of Adjustment

Six members confirmed to the Zoning Board were all reappointments to terms through 2026, with two alternates through 2024:

  • James Heim of Beechwood Road
  • Jelsie Basso of Mooney Place
  • William Hering of New Brunswick Avenue
  • Robert Parson of Forbes Street
  • William Tomkiewicz of Madison Hill Road (alternate)
  • Roy L. Smith of Stockton Street (alternate)

Alcohol Beverage Control Board

Matthew Dobrowolski of West Hazelwood Avenue was reappointed through 2025 to the three-member board, which by state law must have at least one Democrat and one Republican.

Arts & Business Advisory Board

Heidi Loder-Rosal, president of the Chamber of Commerce and co-owner of Atelier Rosal on East Cherry Street, was appointed through 2023.

Cannabis Advisory Committee

Three appointments were made to one of the city’s newest committees, which City Council created in October, . The committee is made up of three mayoral appointments, who will serve through 2023:

  • Joannelle Bailey of Old Lake Avenue
  • Dorian Petersen of City Hall Plaza
  • Thomas O’Reilly of Greslin Terrace, who was appointed to a vacant seat on the Redevelopment Agency in August and lost a bid for re-election to the Board of Education in November..
