Poll results: Favorite sweet treat to beat the summer heat

It hasn’t been a typical, brutally hot and humid August in the area this year but the forecast calls for more summer-like weather soon.

That means there’s still time to go out and enjoy some of the offerings in this month’s reader poll, sponsored by RahwayIsHappening.com (the Rahway Special Improvement District), in which we asked:

What’s your favorite sweet treat to beat the summer heat in Rahway?

  1. Wholly Cow — 64% (179/280 votes)
  2. Melao Cafe and Creamery — 26% (72/280 votes)
  3. Rita’s of Rahway — 5% (14/280 votes)
  4. Piece of Cake — 3% (8/280 votes)
  5. Rahway Creamery — 1.42% (4/280 votes)
  6. Dairy Queen — 1.07% (3/280 votes)
  7. Madina Halal Platter — 0% (0/280 votes)

A whopping 280 votes were cast, a bit more than the previous month’s poll, which garnered 240 votes. (Remember, voters are limited to 1 choice per vote, and votes are limited to 1 per IP address).

And just like last month, the top vote-getter won pretty decisively, with Wholly Cow gobbling up almost two-thirds of the votes, finishing ahead of Melao Cafe and Creamery, which nabbed about a quarter of the vote. That didn’t leave too many votes for the rest of the field. Rita’s of Rahway finished third, followed by Piece of Cake, Rahway Creamery and Dairy Queen.

A sweet summer treat to beat the summer heat can be just about anything but in this case, top vote-getter h Wholly Cow offers up gelato in their new space in The Mint. Rahway Creamery has something a little different with its water ice and custard.

Keep an eye out for a new reader poll for September, coming up in the next week. Thanks for voting!
