City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing and final approval tonight on a new 20-year lease agreement for the city’s water treatment plant and a $14-million bond ordinance to borrow against an annual concession fee in the deal. UPDATED: Tonight’s meeting has been canceled. A combined conference/regular meeting has been scheduled for Nov. 21.
Although results nationwide were not yet decisive, Democrat Hillary Clinton easily and not surprisingly carried most of Rahway, losing only one voting district to Republican Donald Trump.
City Council is expected to approve an ordinance that would amend the Central Business District (CBD) Redevelopment Plan, allowing a proposal for 219 units on the Center Circle property on Main Street. The Planning Board recommended the approvals last month.

The developer of a 45-unit project aims to begin demolition of existing buildings along East Cherry Street by next month to allow construction to begin before winter.
