The Rail House 1449 opens Friday

The Rail House 1449 will begin operating on Friday.

Dozens of people packed the former David Drake location for an open house last night where owner Larry Fishman told me his plan is to begin with dinner service, starting Friday, and perhaps boost marketing efforts after the new year. Fishman was a former owner of The Stone Pony in Asbury Park until several years ago.

Restaurantpassion.com describes the menu as “contemporary American cuisine” with the range for an average dinner entree between $15 and $22, and recommends reservations.

Here’s a pretty cool story from The Star-Ledger/nj.com a few weeks back about an investment foundation helping start-up businesses along Newark’s Halsey Street with interest-free loans.

  1. Wishing them lots of luck..Not that I use Groupon but I know alot friends who do..it is good for advertising etc maybe they would want to check that out.. 🙂

  2. I am more interested in the former restaurant that was there originally: David Drake. I purchased 4 gift certificates and they closed down. Can someone help us. Two were purchased the week before Christmas and they closed down the following week!! Help!

  3. Sonia – I think you're SOL but the one thing you could try is contacting David Drake's people at Daryl Wine Bar or Alice's in Lake Hopatcong. Or google searching what venture he's at now. Perhaps they can arrange an exchange. Otherwise you're holding on the equivalent of Zimbabwe dollars.

  4. First visit was very good. While not reaching teh heights of David Drake (which, honestly, was world class), Chef Mike does a very good job. Definitely planning many visits, hope others support it.
