Poll results: Favorite restaurant

After a bizarre couple of weeks, our latest poll (“What’s your favorite restaurant in Rahway”) is complete.

Luciano’s took an early lead with 16 of 73 votes after one day, holding onto a slim one- and two-vote lead over Flynn’s and The Waiting Room, respectively, after two days and 105 votes. The third day all hell broke loose: the Firehouse Pub came out of nowhere and had about 40 of 150 votes cast before the end of the day. It went like that for awhile until someone decided they wanted to show how easy it is to manipulate the poll and cast 100 votes for “Other.”

So after 262 votes (minus the 100 “Other” votes, and without any idea how many votes may have been repeats; remember, this isn’t scientific by any means), for what it’s worth, here are the results:

“What’s your favorite restaurant in Rahway?”
Firehouse Pub & Eatery, 35 percent (93/262 votes)
Flynn’s Irish Pub & Steakhouse, 16 percent (43/262)
Luciano’s, 15 percent (38/262)
The Waiting Room, 9 percent (24/262)
Cubanu, 6 percent (15/262)
Nancy’s Towne House, 6 percent (15/262)
Beana’s, 4 percent (10/262)
El Bodegon, 3 percent (7/262)
Galaxy Diner, 3 percent (7/262)
Mango’s Grill, 1 percent (3/262)
Tauros Tapas Grill, 1 percent (3/262)
Casa Borinquen, 1 percent (2/262)
Valentina’s, 1 percent (2/262)
Kim’s In The Mix, 0 percent (0/262)

A rather timely column in the Star-Ledger earlier this month about the resurgence of Asbury Park and its redevelopment efforts. Timely only because it appeared the day after I paid a visit, my first in many, many years, and I was pretty impressed. A ton of activity all day and night at the boardwalk (great weather that day) and while there was a fair share of empty storefronts along some streets off the boardwalk, there was no shortage of restaurants and other stores either.
