Rahway’s 14-percent drop in crime last year followed a wider trend throughout the area of declining crime rates, including a 13-percent dip in Union County overall and a 4-percent drop statewide.

Reported crime down 14 percent in 2013

Overall incidents of crime in Rahway dropped by 14 percent from 2012 to 2013, including an 11-percent decline in nonviolent crime and 38 percent in violent crime, according to the latest Uniform Crime Report (UCR) released last week by the State Police.

A new year, a new look

After more than six years, it was time for a facelift for Rahway Rising. I hope you like the new design, with a shift from a Blogger platform to WordPress. There’s still some tweaking and upgrading to be done as we get more acquainted with the new platform so you may see some more subtle changes over the coming weeks. Bear with me if there are any hiccups, particularly if you subscribe by email or follow on Facebook.

Rahway Rising new logoThe changes will be strictly in design. Content still will focus on providing information related to redevelopment in Rahway. The site’s most basic mission — to inform citizens — has not and will not change.

Thanks especially to Clea Carchia of Rahway-based Chameleon Design House, who designed, among other things, the snappy new logo you’ve seen as well as that sharp-looking header at the top of our home page.

The top 10 Rahway Rising posts of 2013

There are two things that people will remember about 2013 (at least according to traffic on this site): the hotel closing and the mayor resigning. If you look at the Google Analytics for 2013, the graph has a steady pace until September when it shoots up like a rocket and then comes back to Earth. Of course, there were other things that occurred in 2013, like construction under way on the 116-unit Metro Rahway and pending completion of another project, the 108-unit Meridia Water’s Edge.

Easement granted for Lafayette Village

The proposed 115-unit Lafayette Village project at the corner of Main and Monroe streets (map) is expected to begin construction in 2014 after finally getting necessary state permits and other approvals in recent months.
