New poll: Best Chinese

It’s been awhile since we had a poll and since Christmas is almost here, this one seemed timely and appropriate:

What’s your favorite Chinese restaurant/eatery?
Dragon Palace
Hunan Kitchen
Ming Feng
New Fon Garden
New Great Wall
Panda China
No. 1 Chinese Kitchen

For the sake of the poll, Chinese is meant to encompass all Asian cuisine (Japanese, Korean, etc.). Hope that’s OK with everybody. Let me know if there’s any place that I’ve missed that you think should be included the poll.

Maybe next month we’ll come back with the pizza poll which has been popular. And I’m always open to suggestions for future polls.

  1. I just want to say – I like Dragon Palace, plus it's walking distance, pretty well priced, and tasty. That being said, Panda China has sushi for delivery, and I can order it online, and that rocks. So I had to go with them, because I'm so dang lazy I like ordering online and sitting on my butt until it gets here.

  2. I haven't been thrilled with any Chinese in Rahway. Having said that, I recently tried Great Wall for the first time and it's probably the best of what's here. I'm spoiled from living in Scotch Plains for several years and having Hung's Shanghai and Rice Inn to enjoy. Nothing here comes close in quality to either one.

  3. BTW – I can't even believe No. 1 Chinese is part of this poll. While the owner is a nice guy – the food is below average if that. I'm convinced he is staying open on his sale of chicken wings and fried rice alone (believe me, the times I have resorted to ordering from there, everyone else there was ONLY ordering those 2 items). I once asked if he could make me a dish that I'd had elsewhere – nothing *too* exotic, and he had no idea how to put it together even though I told him exactly what went into the dish. Him and his wife attempted to make it for me anyway. I was quite dismayed when they went to put in the black pepper to see them reaching for paper packets of it – they didn't even have a container of black pepper available! When I questioned them about this, their answer was "we don't do fancy cooking" (or something like that). No black pepper? This is a common ingredient in Asian cooking. /me slaps head

  4. I used to love Hunan Kitchen and would not eat anywhere else, but the owners have sold the business and I note a difference in the flavors. I agree with Michelle on being lazy and as New Fon Garden is on my way home from the train, I just stop by there. The family who runs the establishment are so polite and pleasing and are quite willing to alter or create foods to a specific taste. They remember me because I am the only customer they have who absolutely HATES rice (any type of rice) which the find hysterical.

  5. I wish they had a decent Japanese restaurant. The majority of sushi places are owned by Chinese and it just isn't the same quality. As far as Chinese goes I haven't tried any of those on your list but will check them out.

  6. Please, PLEASE add Ming Feng to the options list. Its in the Drug Fair / Deal$ shopping center, in the subsection to the left of Rahway Farm.Every place in "true" downtown is horrible. HORRIBLE! Not just mediocre, but bad.Panda China is OK.

  7. LOL! I came here to write why isn't Ming Feng on the list?? Ming Feng is by far my favorite. As a person of Taiwanese descent, living with another person of Taiwanese descent, we have street cred when it comes to finding good Chinese food.Like a dutiful new resident, I tried every single place that delivers or I could pick up from and guess what? Ming Feng wins. Fast service, their English is fantastic, no problem letting you customize your order, and they always seem to throw in a free soda when my order hits some magical amount.Great Wall does not season their food enough. Everything is bland. The quality of meat at Dragon an #1 is questionable.

  8. The poll has been re-posted to include Ming Feng. Thing about re-posting is all the votes that were cast (I think there were 15) can't be saved, and it starts from zero. So if you voted before Thursday night, please vote again.Sorry for missing out on Ming Feng, I forgot all about it since it's set back so far off St. Georges. Thanks to everyone who chimed in about it!

  9. Just tried Ming Feng during the recent snowstorm, and have to agree with ANON above me, it's not that great either.Hunan was the best I've had in Rahway (but not even close GREAT).

  10. Anon @ 12/28 11:30pm.Do yourself a favor and try Tse Yang in Manhattan! You will never look back.C'mon, the poll is about the best Chinese place in Rahway. Rahway! Is Ming Feng haute cuisine? Not even close. We are talking Division III of culinary experiences here. Among it's peers, MF ain't bad.

  11. I guess Wok and Roll in the Pathmark shopping center doesn't count huh? I think that's considered Avenel, but it has DELICIOUS food. I also like Panda China as well.
