New eatery targets July opening

The Original Nile Restaurant will replace the former Back Porch Bar and Grille, with plans to open by the start of next month. Hassana Kaba, an area Realtor and former River Place resident, owns the restaurant with her husband and is hoping to have all inspections, permits, etc., completed by July 1.

Kaba, whose parents owned The Nile Restaurant in Elizabeth many years ago, described the fare as southern-style “comfort food,” soul food and general American cuisine with random specials. She’s hoping to have the outdoor seating on the deck available for the grand opening, though the restaurant won’t being serving alcohol (the previous tenant still holds the liquor license, from what I understand).

  1. Thanks! Mad? Hmm, didn’t think I was. I’m usually aiming for ‘wistful’ or ‘pensive’ in my photo shoots… 🙂

  2. I just finished eating a meal from Original Nile. We had beef brisket, collard greens, cabbage and we had some Bean Pie. Everything was really good. The bean pie crust was incredible, I have no Idea what Bean Pie is except that is is really good. My wife and I were both stuffed from one shared entree. The staff was friendly, and helpful. Please patronize this restaurant if you are hungry for good home cooked food. I hope they get a liquor license though.

  3. We dined their Saturday and it was excellent, it’s a great neighborhood place. Everyone who walks through the door gets a smile from at least one person. Everybody seems to know everybody and even the staff are really laid back and easy going and it made me feel at ease being there. It’s a casual place, and of course the food is delicious! With an owner/chef whose cuisine knowledge and the menu make it hard to pick just one thing. The entrees are HUGE portions for the price and I didn’t have anything I didn’t like, including stuff off other people’s plates that I did not order! I actually ordered the fried chicken a stand out choice … the chicken was juicy and they let you mix and match your two side dishes. I usually don’t take doggie bags, but my wife does and I one of use will have dinner on Sunday or Monday. The desserts are really good (if you want the Bean Pie, you may want to order dessert when you order your entrée, I understand it is that good). Thumbs Up.Please patronize this restaurant if you are hungry for good home cooked food.
