Council to vote on Bridge Street parking

City Council will vote on an ordinance next week that would allow the Parking Authority to use part of Bridge Street, which could be used to help settle a parking dispute that’s potentially holding up the next downtown project.

Bridge Street parkingThe ordinance (O-1-16), which comes up for a public hearing and final approval during the governing body’s regular meeting on Monday, would authorize the Parking Authority “to use, maintain, operate and manage a portion of Bridge Street for vehicle parking (pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:11A-22).”

O-17-15-Block-319-Lot-6-tax-mapLast summer, City Council approved a measure that would convey the parcel (Block 319, Lot 6) near Bridge Street to the Parking Authority. The lot could be used to settle a dispute over parking arrangements between the adjacent Luciano’s Ristorante and developers of Main & Monroe, which would use the corner of Poplar Street as part of its development. Owners of Luciano’s have argued that they had an agreement with the previous potential developer about replacing the roughly two dozen parking spaces they lease across the street from the restaurant when the project gets developed.

Redevelopment Agency Executive Director Leonard Bier said last month that he hopes to resolve the parking issue by the end of this month.
