City to pursue developer for improvements

The city is preparing a complaint against the developers of Riverwalk to compel them to complete almost a half-million dollars in improvements or recoup money to do the improvements on its own.

During his report at the last Redevelopment Agency meeting, RRA attorney Frank Regan said officials have met with the condo board and management company at Riverwalk to talk about a number of concerns, including various improvements that have not been completed.

The biggest issue, according to Regan, has been the failure of Diversified Communities to complete more than $400,000 in on- and off-site improvements, with some streets still not permanently paved, leaving sewer manhole covers exposed on Hancock and Essex streets.

  1. Is this the builder thats planning to tear down the old factory near the train station? If so all of us in town need to monitor them a little better I think!

  2. How’s Diversified doing these days? Would they be able to come up with the money should a court compel them to do so?

  3. hmmm…shill?Skyview now has a matching giant banner in the back of the building facing route 1. This one is closest the Milton side of the building hung in a vertical orientation, way up high. Its content is similar to the one they have on the front which advertises condos for Lease/Sale.

  4. Isn’t Diversified the same group that backed out of the town center project? Why doesn’t the town give them more projects, it sounds like them are reliable (dripping with sarcasm)I’ve used the Skyview cleaners a few times and like them very much. I prefer them to the other place across the street where I used to go.

  5. Hi all – new Rahway resident here: I’ve been reading your blog for over a year (always new I would move to Rahway) and I love it. In saying that, I believe Diversified are no longer in business: I had the hardest time trying to find someone to show me the unoccupied townhomes at Riverwalk at Rahway. Although I did find the agent who were showing the new townhomes; he NEVER followed up. Needless to say, I found a plan B. I believe its been long enough that the roads have not been paved. I can’t wait until the park across the street from Riverwalk is complete.

  6. Kevin, If by "old factory near the train station" you mean the former Wheatena and Quinn & Boden properties (Elizabeth and Grand avenues), that developer is Matzel & Mumford. They've been trying for some time to acquire the largest parts of the property from the owner. And yes, Diversified had been the one of the developers for Town Center, along with DeBartolo, but now it's just DeBartolo. Not sure if Diversified is out of business, but there hasn't been an active Web site for months and I've had several inquiries about what exactly is going on with them. Not sure, but about 20 of the 86 units at Riverwalk remain unsold.

  7. Hmm. Good point. 'Old factory' made me think no longer in use. A&M Tool Supply on Campbell is still in business.Diversified isn't the developer there either; it's Heartstone, the same ones who did River Place. They have to relocate A&M before they can start work on Station Place.

  8. Re: New Cleaners. BF just had some suits altered there also – they did great work in 2 days flat (or was it 1 day? Don’t remember, just recall he needed them ASAP). We were shocked they were able to accommdate him that quickly.
