City employees who have one or more motor vehicle violations within a one-year period, or a conviction for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, would be required to take a defensive driving course under a change to the municipal employee policy.

City Council approved a new 20-year lease agreement for a private operator to continue running the city’s water treatment plant, replacing the final two years on the original lease and continuing through 2036.
City Council introduced a 2017 municipal budget on Monday night that estimates an average tax increase of about $81, or 2.4 percent, on the average Rahway home.
