The building at 291-301 W. Grand Ave. (Block 222, Lot 8) will have two retail tenants on the ground floor of 850 and 900 square feet, and two, two-bedroom apartments on the second floor.
A deli, which also does some catering and banquet work, is slated to occupy the right side of the ground floor space, said owner Rafael Ortiz, signing a two-year lease with an option for three more years at $1,200 a month. A liquor store had interest in the other retail space but was rebuffed by the city
As reported on Rahway Rising, the Zoning Board granted approval almost a year ago, granting the same variances given to previous developers.
Located at the corner of West Grand Avenue and Newton Place, the property sold for $165,000 in August 2007, and before that $155,000 in June 2003, according to tax records. Assessed at $179,500, the 0.1518-acre site paid about $8,365 in property taxes last year.
