After a few recent reader comments and emails, I inquired about the stairs, or lack thereof, on the East Milton Avenue/New York-bound side of the Train Station platform.The photo at left was taken in June, before demolition of the stairs.
A spokesman for NJ Transit offered this: "The middle tier of the stairway is being replaced due to corrosion from anti-icing agents. Demolition is complete and reconstruction is expected to be completed within next several months. Cost is about $100,000."
The Rahway Train Station underwent a $16-million renovation in 2002.

Thanks for the update on this Mark. It will be great to have that stairway back in action. Though I am dubious that the project will actually begin in the next few months, I am optimistic that with the movement towards public works projects in this country, Rahway will enjoy its own little slice of the "New Deal" pie.
Do they also plan to fix the stairs at the corner of Cherry St. and Irving? The rust holes are big enough to see through and they're currently being held up with wood supports.
Great to hear they're fixing those stairs. Not only are they an eyesore, but for practical reasons it will be nice to have those stairs open again.
You know a town is in the crapper when people are excited about new train station stairs.

C'mon! Real Estate Asking Prices are holding up well here in Rahway so there are plenty of other things to get excited about.
... and did I mention that Organic Skyview Cleaners sign is up so I am sure they will be ready for action ASAP.
